Wow, I cannot clap for this enough. You've articulated something that I've been thinking about nonstop. It's pure privilege to believe that focusing inward and pampering yourself is enough to make the world a better place without *action* that accompanies it. I'm a big believer that mental health and personal wellbeing help us be self-aware enough to look beyond our personal needs and see the wider world clearly, and also be prepared to break down internalized problematic thoughts like racist beliefs or self-centering ones. As someone with PTSD from sexual abuse it did take me helping myself to be able to help others and outwardly confront patriarchal systems. It also helped me become a more empathetic person to the struggles other people unlike myself face, emotionally and societally in the power structures that be. But mental health alone is not enough to make outward, societal change. That takes action, too. (I've heard people suggesting that white people with anxiety should work to overcome that anxiety so we can effectively put our white bodies in public places of protest.) I appreciate how you include cultural appropriation as a directly related problem. It is, and it's violent theft to steal and profit from ideas of people who are oppressed from that same capitalistic system.

(Also, I'm reading Self Care by Leigh Stein which tackles this concept satirically. It's a great read and I recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more.)
